Blog #1

So hello everyone, this is me Steven and this is my new blog “Fun & Aviation”. In this blog I’ll do simple talks in aviation ,perhaps that will get you interested into aviation. To start with we will talk about the 4 main commercial airliner’s manufacturing companies:
1) Airbus
2) Boeing
3) Bombardier
4) Embraer

Now let’s talk about some the manufacturers and some of the planes they produce:

1)Airbus:
Airbus is a European company located in Toulouse Airport, France, they have a wide range of narrow-body and wide-body jets that are used by most of the biggest and smallest airlines. Airbus produces a lot of aircrafts:

•A318
•A319
•A320
•A321
Let’s talk about these 4 first before we continue with the rest. Airbus has gotten a lot of orders for these 4 aircrafts mainly because they are cheap to buy and to fly. Most budget airlines mainly use these aircrafts such as: easyJet ,however, when they first started out they used Boeing aircrafts. Airbus has created a newer versions of these aircrafts by adding the word NEO to them , which means they used the same design of the aircraft with developed technology and engines, in other words it means they use less fuel to run so it’s cleaner for the environment and cheaper for airlines to use. It was a big hit for Airbus as they got many orders for them by big and small airlines. Also Airbus created a NEO version for their A330

Airbus also produces more aircrafts:
•A330
•A340
•A350-900/1000
•A380

Airbus didn’t only work on narrow body jets that we talked about earlier but also created wide body jets that can fly long distances.
However, there biggest aircraft and the world biggest aircraft was the least sold one.
When Boeing introduced their night double-decker jumbo jet 40 years ago “the Boeing 747” Airbus wanted to create an aircraft that would compete with it, so they created the A380 in 2005. Even though the A380 was newer, bigger and had more advanced technology than the 747 Airbus didn’t make large profits and sells for their A380. If Emirates didn’t order 100+ A380 Airbus would have not continued producing them.

However, when Boeing introduced the 787 Airbus also wanted to produce an aircraft that would make more orders and less fuel usage. So they introduced the A350-900/-1000 which had many orders mainly by Qatar Airways, Lufthansa, Delta and Iberia.

2) Boeing

Boeing located in Seattle, USA is the best and top manufacture of fighter jets, cargo jets and commercial jets but we will only talk about the commercial jets.
Boeing has a wide range about aircrafts that are now in the skies
1) 737 family
When Boeing starters manufacturing the 737 they had the 737-300/-500 which are rare to find flying now. Then they started the -700/-800/-900 which have 3 versions of each variant.
•the normal ones
• NG (Next Generation)
• MAX

The NG was an improved version of the original 737-700/-800/-900 and the MAX was an improved version of the 737-700/-800/-900 NG

All 3 variants were a bestseller and each plane was made in only 9 days.

2) 747

Around 40 years ago Boeing introduced an aircraft that would be a top hit and would carry many passengers around the world directly, the double decker “747”. Boeing also had 3 main variants for these aircrafts
•747-200
•747-400
•747-800
Boeing had a lot of orders for their 747, but unfortunately, 40 years later the 747 journey has came to end only a few airlines still fly the 747-400 and -800 however, the -200 is retired by airlines. British Airways will be the last operator of the 747-400 and is expected that all their 747-400s will be fully retired by 2020. Lufthansa still fly their -400 and -800 which will be retired soon. Qantas has retired all their 747-400 but they still have one left in their fleet. You all still have a chance to fly in them.

3) 757
The 757 was a great aircraft produced between 1981 and 2004 they are no longer produced but still flying, the 757 was designed to fly from short runway.

4) 767
The 767 was Boeing’s first wide body jet, the 767 was first produced in 1982 and are starting to get retired. British Airways retired it’s final 767 last October and it was operating from Larnaca, Cyprus to London Heathrow.

5) 777
777 a long- range wide body aircrafts was first produced by Boeing in 1993 was one of the biggest aircrafts Boeing produced with 1,571 aircrafts produced until now. There are a there are 4 variants of the 777:
1) 777-200LR (Long Range)
2) 777-200F (Freighter)
3) 777-200ER (Extended Range)
4) 777-300ER ( Extended Range)

Boeing is working on a new version of the 777 called the “777X” which will allow pilots trained on the 787 to work on it too just like with the 777. The 777X is a the same as the 777 but with better design, less fuel usage, advanced technology and a similar cockpit to the 787’s cockpit. One of the best features of the 777X is the composite wings with foldable wing tips. There are 2 variants of the 777X the -8/-9. It’s expected that the first 777X will be delivered in May 2020 and the first test flight will be in 2019.

6) 787

The best airplane made by Boeing yet in my opinion. The first 787 was produced in 2007 and the first one delivered in 2011 for All Nippon Airways. The 787 made its first flight in 2009. Fun Fact 787 planes were produced until now. There are 3 variants:
787-8
787-9
787-10
The 787 is one of the most advanced technological airplanes flying now with a wide wingspan of 60m. The 787 can be operated by 777 pilots as well.

This is the end of blog #1 and we will talk about the other 2 commercial jets manufacturing companies as well as alliances and airlines. Hope you enjoyed this blog. Happy flying !!
